Stefan-Romeo Haciadurian, 37, of High Street, Clayhanger, Walsall, admitted stealing the goods on Saturday, June 25.

Robert Carr, prosecuting, said: “Security staff at Asda watched Mr Haciadurian go into the changing rooms. They noticed he had what appeared to be an empty bag.

“They also noticed he was followed in by an unknown man with a basket with razor blades in it and more clothing.

“They then saw Mr Haciadurian come out of the changing room. He know had what appeared to be a bulging bag and some clothing in his hand.”

Haciadurian was detained by store detectives when he walked outside. Inside the bag, which was foil-lined, they discovered £330 of goods.

Tim Haines, mitigating, said Haciadurian had been in the UK for 12 months and came here to find work.

“He was initially successful at finding causal employment in a car wash and as a labourer,” said Mr Haines. “But the work suddenly dried up since the Spring.

“He went to live with a friend in Walsall, hoping to find fresh employment. He is not entitled to make a claim for state benefits.

“He resorted to stealing to support himself and his wife, who is seven-months pregnant and lives in Romania.”

The court heard he faces another charge of theft, which is due to be heard at Walsall Magistrates’ Court next week.

Magistrates in Mansfield gave him a six-month conditional discharge and ordered him to pay £20 towards costs.
