Papplewick’s Sasha Perkins will be hoping to take her beauty pageant ambitions to the next level on Monday.
For the 17-year-old will take part in the 2014 semi-finals of the Miss England competition, which take place at Kelham Hall, near Newark.
Sasha has already been crowned Miss Nottingham Popularity.
She told the Dispatch: “I can’t wait. It is so exciting.
“I’ve got quite a few friends and family coming with me on Monday so fingers crossed.”
Sasha will be up against 81 competitors in the semi-final, with contestants trying to get through different rounds.
As she was speaking to the Dispatch, Sasha was busy putting the finishing touches to an eco dress for the event.
The dress has to be made from recycled materials and Sasha’s dress is being made from an old prom dress and pure Nottingham lace.
“This is always something I have wanted to do,” said Sasha.
“I was scouted at the Clothes Show and it has gone from there.”
It will be a busy week for ambitious Sasha, who will also be celebrating her 18th birthday.
Sasha, who attended Trent College, near Long Eaton, is a model and a dance teacher.
Her “crew”, Vibez, have previously taken part in world championships.
The organisers of the Miss England contest say that the modern competitionis now far more than “just a beauty contest”.
Participants have to be “far more than just a pretty face to win the crown”.
When Sasha takes part in the semis, one of the first things she wil have to do is take part in an Army fitness challenge.
Sasha hopes to participate in the Miss Nottingham competition again next year and has her sights set on winning the title.
The Miss England semi-final is being held alongside a wedding fair and the remaining 10 Miss England semi-finalists will have the opportunity to model bridalwear in the finale.
