Work to buck a seasonal crime trend in Ashfield will see allotment holders contacted by police and hundreds of leaflets delivered in key areas of the district. Police say that for the past three years, Ashfield has seen a “marked increase” in thefts from garden sheds and outbuildings in April and May, with these and similar offences accounting for between 10 per cent and 15 per cent of all crime in the area.
Ashfield Community Safety Partnership is this year funding a project which aims to remind people about securing their sheds and protecting the property stored in them. The awareness-raising campaign is being run in conjunction with independent crime-fighting charity Crimestoppers. Information on shed security is available at www.nottinghamshire.police.uk/crime-prevention-guides.
