HUCKNALL sisters Rachel Foster and Laura Ruston were touched to learn that a family member was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.

So much so that they decided to do something to help raise money for the Macmillan Cancer Charity appeal.

They teamed up with Hucknall’s Crossroads Church to put on an event at the Interchange on Linby Road, Hucknall.

They sold cakes and bric-a-brac as well as serving tea and coffee to church members and visitors after a service.

Businesses on High Street, Hucknall generously donated gifts for raffle prizes and the total raised from all sales and donations on the day was £250.

Rachel and Laura were overjoyed at the response of people who attended the event and the icing on the cake was some excellent news they received on the very next day.

Their relative told them a consultant was so pleased with her progress that he was stopping all chemotherapy treatment.

“It was a great effort by the two sisters for a very worthy cause,” said a church spokeswoman.
