An extremely fascinating and informative talk was presented to the members of Hucknall (Leenside ) Women’s Institute recently when Janet and Chris Smith Of Selston were the speakers.
Janet and Chris being dwarves, gave a talk entitled “Small Talk” explaining the advantages and disadvantages they had experienced over their lives including owning and running a hotel at Skegness for 12 years and members were amazed to hear Janet had taken and passed her driving test at the first attempt in her fifties when Chris had to have surgery and couldn’t drive.
Any proceeds from their talks are all donated to the “Restricted Growth Association”. They were thanked by Ruth Houldsworth.
The President, Jenny Holmes, gave belated thanks to the former president, Alison Inglis for her very successful three years in the post and hoped at some time in the near future she would be able to return to the position.
It was announced that 22nd August was the date of the next Charity Stall to be held by the WI on Hucknall Market by kind permission of Ashfield District Council.
Volunteers were needed on the day and donations of unwanted items which could be sold were requested. Members were also informed of a possible outing in November to the Theatre Royal to see a performance of “Annie” by Nottingham Operatic Society.

He hopes to swim 100 lengths in 100 minutes in August and £25 was collected towards his efforts.
