If you can sing or play a musical instrument then Mansfield’s Community Gospel Choir needs you!

The choir is holding an open evening on Friday 31st January from 7.30-8.30pm for any aspiring members to go along and see what the group is all about.

“Unfortunately we have recently lost a few members because they have gone to university and we need more people to boost the numbers,” said choir spokesman, Louise Derbyshire.

“We need singers, guitarists, drummers and keyboard players especially but anyone who wants to join us is welcome.”

The choir is in its 10th year and has members from across the age ranges both male and female.

“We sing a variety of songs consisting of gospel and uplifting tunes ranging from O Happy Days by the great Edwin Hawkins and All You Need Is Love by the Beatles,” added Louise. “We are all about singing feel-good songs that lift the mood.

“It has great health benefits too as it makes you feel better and refreshed because of the type of songs we sing.”

The choir hold their practice sessions at Samworth Church Academy on Friday evenings from 7-9pm.

They then perform at various churches and community events, such as weddings, funerals, Mansfield Arts Week, and also fundraising concerts.

Choir organiser, Marva Williams, added: “In the past we have appeared in concerts for the Teenage Cancer Trust and Cancer Research UK amongst many others.

“We are in a position now where we want to expand our performances further but need more members to achieve this.”

Choir members are all from around the Mansfield area but they will welcome members from further afield.

“We are a very relaxed choir who want to have a good time so if you feel you want to, come along, bring your instrument if you play and join in the fun,” added Marva.

Thchoir’s open evening audition will be held in the library at Samworth and those interested can drop by and join in with the choir .
