Rugby enthusiasts have had thrills and spills after taking part in a game of wheelchair rugby.

On 15th March, players spent two fun-filled hours getting stuck into the disability sport at Mansfield’s Portland College leisure centre.

With many newcomers, the group got fully stuck in to playing the fast-paced Paralympic sport in aim of raising money for a new inclusive sports academy at the college.

The event raised £110 towards the college’s fund raising efforts for the new sports academy.

The college is also planning to hold a charity cup event on 16th May to help boost funds.

One of the newcomers to the sport said: “It was great to get involved in trying out a new sport, and I would like to thank Portland College for giving us the opportunity to have a go at Wheelchair Rugby. The sport is not for the faint of heart, but we’ve all had a great time and are glad to support the college’s fund raising – the proposed new Sports Academy would be of great benefit to young disabled people from all over the UK and also to the Mansfield and Ashfield community.”

If you know any businesses looking for team-building events or community/sports groups who might like to try Wheelchair Rugby or another disability sport, get in touch with the college’s fund raising team on 01623 499141 who can help to organise a similar event on its Nottingham Road campus.
