Woman's anti-gay tirade in town pub

A Nottingham woman who made homophobic remarks to a man in a Hucknall pub has been ordered to pay compensation, magistrates have ruled.

Mary McKeown, 47, of Horsham Drive, Top Valley, Nottingham, admitted using abusive or insulting words with the intention of causing harassment, alarm or distress to the man when she appeared at Nottinghamshire Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday August 16.

The court heard the offence occurred at the Station Hotel, Hucknall, on July 31.

She was discharged conditionally for 12 months. Magistrates also ordered her to pay a fine of £20, compensation of £100 and costs of £85.
