A DEDICATED Hucknall gran has ploughed 25 years of her life into working with young children in the town — and shows no sign of wanting to call time on her efforts.

LYNDA TURNER, who has always wanted to work with youngsters, has now been recognised for her long service with Hucknall Pre-School Playgroup, which meets at the town’s Watnall Road Baptist Church.

The 58-year-old, of Nursery Close, first became involved as a helper when her children, Clare (now 29) and Keren (now 27), attended the playgroup.

A special presentation ceremony for Lynda was organised at a session of the playgroup and it was kept a closely-guarded secret so that it would come as a big surprise.

She received gifts which included a bird bath, flowers, a gift voucher and a cake made by a committee member, as well as a big card signed by all her colleagues and parents involved with the playgroup.

Lynda, who now has three grandchildren, says she has been delighted to work with successive generations of youngsters during her service.

She adds that her husband, Roy, is so supportive that he gives a helping hand to the playgroup and even joins in tidying up at the end of its sessions.

Lynda is keen to continue her outstanding record of service with the playgroup. She says: “Working with children is more than just a hobby. It is my life.”
