MAGICIAN and musician Ian Young has taken over the presidency of HUCKNALL ROTARY CLUB where he has been an active member since 2006.
During his time in Hucknall he has become known across the community for his entertaining ways playing the guitar, tuba, trombone and trumpet at various events well as as demonstrating his magic skills.
That is all a far cry from Ian’s earlier days when he worked in London as a merchant banker before he followed in his parents’ footsteps by becoming a Salvation Army officer.
He became a Major before fulfilling a number of different roles within the organisation before leaving after 19 years to work for a mental-health charity.
Ian’s knowledge and interest in mental health, as well as domestic violence, will be the focus of his networking activity as Rotary president, raising awareness of the issues.
“I am also a passionate supporter of Barnsley Football Club as well as being a member of the National Trust,” said Ian.
Ian’s interest in the organisation began when he joined Rotary International in 2003, becoming a member of Kidderminster Club (District 1070).
In 2006, he transferred to Hucknall, where he has served as both assistant secretary and assistant treasurer, junior and senior vice-president, chairman of the Foundation/Youth Generations Committee and webmaster.
