Thistle Hill Hall, on Debdale Lane, is one of just nine facilities in 14,500 nationally to be ranked “outstanding” in all five areas by the Care Quality Commission, according to manager Megan Tranter.

Inspectors visited the home unannounced in March.

And in their report, published this month, the facility earned top marks in every area – something which less than one per cent of care homes has achieved.

Megan said: “We are all delighted, it really is a massive achievement for us.

“We are up against huge companies with millions of pounds to spend on their services.

“We are no chain, just an independent service, but we are one of the best.

“It is testament to the hard work of staff and to the service-users for all their help.”

Megan was drafted in after the home was ranked as “requiring improvement” in 2015.

Megan said that out of more than 14,500 facilities which the CQC inspects – including elderly, children and disabled care – only nine have got outstanding for being safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well led.

The CQC report states: “A clear vision for the promotion of mental and physical well-being was embedded throughout the home and there was a strong commitment to deliver a high standard of personalised care.

“There was a culture of continuous learning, development and improvement at Thistle Hill Hall and creative solutions were developed in response to adverse events.

“Robust and frequent quality assurance processes ensured the safety and quality of the service. Practice was evidence based and regular evaluations took place to ensure that the service had a positive impact on the lives of the people living at the home.”
