West Notts College have confirmed the death of a female member of staff who collapsed on their Derby Road campus yesterday, Thursday 27th November.
It was reported that a woman had collapsed on the site between 10am and 11am, and died later in hospital.
A spokesman for the college said: “We can confirm that a 51-year-old female member of staff collapsed in one of the canteens at the Derby Road campus this morning and has sadly died.
“First Aid and defibrillator-trained staff responded straight away and tried to resuscitate her, and paramedics were on the scene within minutes.
“Everything that could have been done to save her life, both at the college and at hospital, was done.
“We are grateful to those students that offered to help; however, it was appropriate that professionally-trained staff were given the space to try and resuscitate their colleague.
“Indeed, paramedics have praised the college’s response to this most tragic of circumstances.
“Clearly, this is a deeply sad and distressing time for all concerned and our thoughts are with the staff member’s family, friends, work colleagues and anybody else that knew her.
“Staff and students are being offered counselling and support; and the college needs time to come to terms with this tragedy and the loss of a much-loved and highly-popular colleague, who had worked here five years and was a well-known face on the reception and customer enquiries desk.”
