The votes are in and Mansfield has a new youth mayor, the district council has revealed.
Samworth Church Academy student Tanna Nita will fill the role for the next 12 months, following a narrow victory.
The 16-year-old will be joined by Manor Academy student Tom Richardson (17) as deputy mayor and Queen Elizabeth’s Academy student Jade Booker (17) as youth ambassador.
Tanna received a total of 1,378 votes, beating second placed Tom by just 34 votes.
The three young people will now represent young people in the district and act as ambassadors for Mansfield at various conferences.
Tanna has pledged to raise awareness of the cadet force amongst young people and provide a shelter for the town’s skate park. She also plans to promote a better image for the young people of the town.
Tanna said: “I’m really pleased to have been elected as Mansfield’s new youth mayor. I’m really looking forward to working towards delivering the objectives set out in my manifesto.”
