A BULWELL woman, described by her family as a “true English lady”, has celebrated her milestone 100th birthday.
MAGGIE LUPTON (pictured), who has lived in Bulwell all her life, is currently a resident of Springfield Care Home on Lawton Drive in the town.
To honour her landmark, a birthday party was held with friends and family.
One of Mrs Lupton’s two daughters, Shirley Norton (74), of Bulwell, said: “It was a lovely day.”
Mrs Lupton, who suffers from dementia, also has five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Her other daughter, Joan Hage (66), of Eastwood, said: “Mum has always been family-orientated.
“Whatever anyone has asked of her, if it was in her power, she would do it. She is absolutely fantastic as a mum.”
Mrs Lupton has been married twice, Her first husband died when Mrs Hage was a teenager.
Her second husband, Charles, died ten years ago.
Mrs Lupton spent her working life at the Charles factory in Cinderhill, rolling fabric for underwear and hosiery..
“As well as working, mum also really enjoyed looking after her pets, going on holiday and cooking,” said Mrs Norton.
“She is not as active as she used to be but her personality and character are still exactly the same.
“I think it is great that she has turned 100. She might have dementia but she still knows me and my sister, so that’s a real blessing.” — DISPIC 11-0742-2.
