DOG owners in Hucknall are being urged to have their beloved pets tagged with a special microchip.
The government is considering new laws to make microchipping of dogs compulsory in a bid to tackle the problems of strays and attacks by vicious breeds.
The microchip contains a unique identification number and all the owners’ details. Once in place, the microchip can be checked using a hand-held scanner.
The RSPCA, dog wardens, police and all veterinary practices have access to the scanners.
Vet Daniella McCready, who is clinical director of Value Pet Care, of Vine Terrace, Hucknall, says microchipping is a quick and painless method of permanently identifying a pet.
