Mini Olympics to mark the full Games

LONDON’s Olympic Games may now be nearly at an end — but a one-day Hucknall version will be staged on Sunday.

The venue for this prestigious and well-timed initiative will be the John Godber Centre on Ogle Street.

It will take the form of a family fun day and everyone is welcome.

“The record-breaking medal achievements of Team GB have stimulated a fantastic amount of pride and patriotism,” said a spokeswoman.

“We hope our event, though on a nothing like such a grand scale, will sustain the same feelgood factor. We are staging games and other attractions which will be very much in the spirit of the Olympics.

“We do not want Hucknall to miss out on all the excitement and that is why we are putting on this event as a special one-off. We will even have opening and closing ceremonies and we hope there will be plenty of waving of Union flags.”

It is hoped there will be a big turnout for the opening ceremony.

As well as the games, there will be craft activities, table quizzes, face painting, an appearance by the DZ Disco and a raffle.

Visitors are invited to bring their own picnic and there will be a licensed bar.

The event has all the makings of an enjoyable attraction for the whole family. So at the height of the celebrations for our athletes’ magnificent medal achievements, why not take this golden opportunity to join in Hucknall’s own Olympics?
