Starting in September, Teeth Team is offering tschools everything they need to carry out a daily supervised tooth brushing session, annual dental assessments for all children, bi-annual varnishing and regular talks and presentations.

Graham said: “I am personally phoning every primary headteacher in my constituency to offer this amazing opportunity.

“Tooth decay is a massive problem for our children, especially in Nottingham North, and the programme brings the dentists and nurses to local primaries at no cost to the schools for the first year.”

By the age of five, 38.5 per cent of children in Nottingham have experienced tooth decay and disease.

This is the second highest level among local authorities in the East Midlands, and is even higher in the north of the city which has above average levels of deprivation.

Teeth Team is supported by local charity Rebalancing the Outer Estates, having been trialled at Old Basford, Southwark and Whitemoor schools, and the charity will help meet future costs.

Graham added: “I can’t stress how important I believe this to be, and hope we can eventually get every school in the constituency on board.”
