WITH so many children dependant on games consoles for a passtime and deprived of sunlight parents will be relieved to know there is an alternative.

Voluntary charity Mansfield Play Forum is holding a series of free play days for 5-13-year-olds this summer in Mansfield and Ashfield.

Co-ordinator Leslie Buxton said the group’s mission was to get kids off their X-boxes and playing outside like older generations used to.

“We play traditional games like parents used to play in the old days,” she said.

“We’ve found it breaks down problems between the generations when grown-ups see children outside playing games.”

During the summer holidays there will be 50 play days each in Mansfield and Ashfield parks from 10am-3pm.

There will also be large play days on Mansfield’s Carr Bank Park on 1st August and Ashfield’s Sutton Lawn on 6th August.

They will include everything from bouncy castles to guest appearances from the Stags. Play workers will be on-hand to assist but children are free to come and go so parents have ultimate responsibility.

Mansfield Play Forum will be running weekly competitions in the chad with prizes for children who can tell us where Pip the playful panda has been photographed in Mansfield and Ashfield.

The Forum would also like to appeal for donations of any kind which may be suitable as presents from businesses and members of the public.
