New shop to boost work of Church

A NEW shop has been launched in a prominent Hucknall town-centre location to help boost the work of the Church in the town and neighbouring villages.

ENGAGE GIFTS (pictured) has been opened in what was previously part of the Total Look salon at the junction of High Street and Watnall Road.

The Churches Together In Hucknall, Linby and Papplewick organisation is behind the project. The shop has been created as part of a scheme where groups take over empty premises and put them to use so they don’t degenerate into a state of disrepair.

The shop stocks a range of Christian-themed products including books, greetings cards, wrapping paper, artwork and jewellery.

It also sells a selection of items that are ethical and positive, such as books for children.

Money raised will go towards boosting various church projects, including a scheme that provides food for needy families and a furniture project based at Under One Roof on Vine Terrace.

The Rev Vanessa Hollingworth, who is minister at Hucknall’s Seymour Road Baptist Church and chairman of Churches Together, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the work we do.”

The shop, which is open Mondays to Saturdays, is manned by volunteers. Churches Together also runs Book Talk on Derbyshire Lane, which has been ‘mothballed’ while Engage Gifts is operating — DISPIC NHUD 11-2286-1.
