An event held to promote the Women’s Institute and see if there was enough interest in setting up a group in Linby and Papplewick has been deemed a great success.
Residents were invited to go along to Papplewick Village Hall on Tuesday to find out more about the association with the chance to set up their own group and it attracted a terrific turn-out.
“We had a great turn out of 30 prospective members who spent a happy couple of hours in Papplewick Village Hall finding out about the WI, asking questions, chatting to each other over a cuppa and decorating cup cakes with flavoured icing and chocolate,” said Kay Brown of Bestwood Village WI and support person of the Nottinghamshire Federation WI.
“It was a great success and the second meeting, when hopefully a committee will be chosen, names agreed and times and venues sorted out, will be on Tuesday 1st April at 10am.”
The WI are promoting their activities and hopeing to grow the organisation further by attracting more members and expanding groups in preparation for its centenary celebrations next year.
“This new WI are thinking of being very radical and meeting in the daytime AND in the evening to accommodate everyone,” added Kay. “It was a great day with a really positive bunch of people.
“I’m sure they will soon be adding the name of a new WI to the growing list within the Nottinghamshire Federation.”
