POWERFUL singer Rosanna O’Brien, who grew up in Bulwell, is on the brink of stardom — after beating off hundreds of rivals to land a place in the final of a prestigious national competition.
The 16-year-old will now perform at one of the world’s best-known venues, the O2 Arena in London, as part of the showpiece finale to the Open Mic UK contest.
Rosanna (pictured) has already won through three rounds to get to this stage — an initial audition and two elimination rounds in direct competition with other singers.
She booked her place at the O2 on Tuesday January 21 with an outstanding performance at the regional final at the Corn Exchange in Bedford.
The prize for the overall winner is a record deal with more than £30,000 worth of backing from a record company.
In the final, Rosanna will go up against four other singers in her 16-and-under age-category.
She will perform in front of industry judges from national radio, BBC Introducing (an initiative set up to showcase new talent), celebrity judges and a big audience of up to 2,000 fans.
A two-part show will also air on Sky TV.
Rosanna, who used to be a member of Bulwell St Mary’s Guides, said: “I was one of the lucky five to be picked in my category for the final. I can’t wait to perform at the O2.”
