Have your say

In the last two months, I am pleased to announce a steady fall in house burglary in Bulwell due to the arrest and imprisonment of a prolific offender committing offences in Bulwell Forest.

However, yearly predictions show that there is generally an increase in crime from November through to January as the evenings draw in and Christmas approaches.

The safer neighbourhood team are already hard at work to help keep your home safe by conducting high visibility patrols whilst door knocking, offering crime prevention advice, and subscription to our Neighbourhood alert system which helps to keep you informed about what is happening in your area and what you can do to help.

Thanks to the hard work of CID we have had three recent arrests for burglary where all have been charged and remanded into custody and a further two offenders arrested and charged with robbery. We have a zero tolerance approach to offences of this kind which leave victims feeling vulnerable in their own homes.

We also need your help in ensuring you and your property is safe. Report anything that you feel is suspicious. Even the smallest amount of information can lead to an arrest and remember it’s your vigilance that helps us catch criminals red-handed.

Look at access to the rear of your property and strongly consider fixing a secure gate and heavy duty locks to gates already installed. Speak with friends and family, especially those who are vulnerable, and help them to add extra security.Leave a light on inside your house. Remember to choose low energy lamps. Use a timer switch to operate the lights as it starts to get dark. Change the times that the lights come on to create an illusion that someone is moving around the house. Make sure your front door is well lit and fully visible from the street. Use dusk to dawn lighting that automatically comes on as it gets dark.

Make sure you keep your doors and windows locked at all times. Sign up for free advice and crime alerts at www.bulwellcommunity.co.uk
