A planning application has been made to build 66 residential buildings on the site of a derelict car showroom in Mansfield.
The application by Dukeries properties to build 32 apartments and 34 houses at the former Evans Halshaw site on Nottingham Road was submitted to Mansfield District Council this week.
The site previously consisted of a petrol filling station, car showroom and vehicle repair workshops.
All the buildings on the 1.9 hectares site are now disused and boarded over after the dealership relocated.
Access to the development would be provided via a one-off access point off Nottingham Road.
To the north of the proposed access will be a 3.5 storey apartment unit with 32 apartments.
To the south will be three town house properties three storeys high and the remainder of the site will incorporate two and three storey detached properties.
The application states that the site is a previously developed brownfield site inside the urban boundary within the adopted local plan proposals map.
The site is located on a main arterial route out of Mansfield, the area is predominantly residential.
With the previous use as a car dealership garage, the site would consist as an existing employment site and the redevelopment would equate to the loss of an existing employment site.
In 2010 an application was approved for the redevelopment of the site for housing and in 2013 an application to extend the time limit to the application was also approved by the planning committee subject to a S106 agreement.
This was justified on the grounds that using the site for employment purposes did not integrate with the surrounding residential area.
A residential site was more appropriate than continued employment use.
The site is well served by public transportation with a bus stop on Nottingham Road.
The consultation period has begun and ends on September 1.
