A PLASTERING student from Bulwell just missed out on the perfect finish after reaching the final of a prestigious nationwide competition.
Scott Elsmore made it through to the UK showpiece of SkillBuild, which is Britain’s biggest construction skills competition.
Unfortunately, the 20-year-old, who is a student at New College Nottingham’s (ncn) Basford Hall College, finished second in his category of plastering and dry-wall systems.
But the silver medal might not mean the end of his participation in the contest, which goes international in 2013.
For Scott could still be picked to represent the UK at the next WorldSkills competition in Leipzig, Germany in 2013.
However he is not likely to find out if he has been selected for several months. All he can do now is reflect on his efforts in the UK competition.
To book his place in the final, he took victory in the East Midlands heat held at Basford Hall earlier this year.
As the largest multi-trade competition in the UK, SkillBuild covers a wide range of crafts including bricklaying, cabinet making, carpentry, dry-walling systems, joinery, painting and decorating, plastering, roofing, stonemasonry and wall and floor tiling.
