THE HUNT continues for a predator who abducted and sexually assaulted an eight-year-old girl in Bulwell a year ago.
As reported in the Dispatch, the girl, who is now aged nine, was enticed to a secluded area in Pulley Park, off Hoewood Road, and subjected to a terrifying ordeal at 6.30 pm on Tuesday November 23 2010.
A man was arrested and charged but was cleared after the case was dropped at Nottingham Crown Court.
The youngster’s mum even issued an anonymous and emotional appeal for help in tracing her daughter’s attacker ln April. But still the inquiry has stalled.
Now officers have issued another plea for residents who live nearby or visit Pulley Park to cast their minds back on the anniversary of the assault. It happened on the same day Prince William and Kate Middleton announced their wedding date.
Supt Adrian Pearson said: “A year is a long time and relationships may have changed since the attack happened.
“Loyalties might have altered and someone out there may have crucial information about the identity of the attacker.
“We have consulted professional profilers as part of our investigation to offer some insight into the sort of person we are looking for. Their feedback is that the attacker is almost certainly local, or has very good local knowledge.
“The man probably has a chaotic lifestyle and may be dependant on alcohol or drugs. If this sounds like someone you know and you think they could have carried out such an assault, I urge you to come forward to police and tell us what you know.
“I’m confident someone out there knows who committed this despicable crime and the information they provide may well help us prevent another child being hurt in the future.”
On the day of the attack, the girl had gone out to play with friends when she was approached by a man in Commercial Road.
He led her away, walking along Abercarn Close, Rock Street and Aldgate Close.
After the assault, the girl was able to get away and made her way back to Commercial Road where she raised the alarm. She was left extremely distressed with severe bruising to her body.
CCTV footage of a man seen in the area around the time of the attack was previously released. A post was set up in Bulwell town centre for three days for locals to talk to detectives
