KEEP-FIT fans in Hucknall who are on the hunt for an exciting challenge to get the blood pumping need look no further than newly-launched POLE-DANCING CLASSES!

Images conjured up by pole-dancing usually centre on scantilly-clad, glamorous dancing girls.

But now anyone can give the pursuit a try — with the aim of boosting fitness and strength — thanks to PoleKat Fitness, of Portland Road, which is opening its doors to women and men of all ages and abilities.

Classes offer the chance to limber up with fun, pole-dancing lessons and for those wishing for something a little more mainstream they can also enjoy Zumba classes — dance aerobics with a Latin theme.

Owner Kat Humphrey said: “I’m a freelance pole-fitness instructor. I’ve been in the fitness industry for 12 years and I have been a competitive pole-dancer for four years.

“I teach in gyms around Nottingham and also offer affordable one-to-one and private lessons for small groups.

“My philosophy is Carpe Diem — seize the day! Life’s too short to take seriously, so have fun and take chances.”

Kat explained that pole-dancing fitness is all about having fun with the added bonus of getting a workout.

The sessions include a mixture of gymnastics and dance on a vertical pole and test strength, agility and cardiovascular fitness.

Experts argue that pole dancing is the fastest and most fun way to tone up especially because it targets particular parts of the body such as the thighs, arms, abdominal areas and the bum.

Kat added: “It is also a fantastic way to increase your confidence in a friendly and fun environment.

“I teach men and women of all ages and abilities from complete beginner to advanced.”

Class activities include spins, holds, strength training, floor work, headstands, handstands, inverts, tricks and acrobatics.
