THE ROYAL British Legion, which has branches in Bulwell and Hucknall, has launched its annual Poppy Appeal fundraising initiative with the help of civic dignitaries.
The Poppy Appeal is one of the best-supported campaigns in the UK, and money collected as part of the initiative is ploughed into helping current and ex-servicemen and women.
The appeal was launched in Nottinghamshire with the help of the county’s Vice Lord Lieutenant, Colonel Tim Richmond, and the chairman of Notts County Council, Coun Keith Walker (Con).
The equivalent initiative in Nottingham was officially started in a ceremony the next day at the Council House in the city.
This time, the Lord Mayor of Nottingham, Coun Michael Wildgust (Lab), of Bulwell, was involved. Support came from the Nottinghamshire Army Force Band and other youth organisations.
