THE EVER-improving Hucknall and Linby Mining Community Brass band gained valuable experience at a prestigious national contest.
The locals finished seventh of 15 competitors in their section at the Butlins Mineworkers National Open Festival held in Skegness.
A total of 102 bands took part in the festival, which is one of the largest in the country.
Hucknall and Linby, who play in the third section of the national brass-band structure, were praised for the quality of their music.
A band spokesman said: “The weekend was a valuable experience for the band, both musically and also for the bonding of the young players on the social side of the event.”
Next on the agenda for the band is a concert at St Peter and St Paul’s Church on Ruffs Drive, Hucknall on Saturday February 18.
The group are the first brass band to be based in Hucknall for more than 25 years.
