Public are asked to try out market

A campaign to raise awareness of the recently refurbished Alfreton Indoor Market on Institute Lane is underway with local residents encouraged to give it a try.

This call comes after an Amber Valley Borough Council survey found that from 161 respondents, 21 per cent were unaware the market existed.

The indoor market has been through a major facelift in recent years.

Its building has been upgraded to a higher standard, with a new roof, LED lighting, toilet block and individual kiosks for hairdressers, Gothic clothing, jewellery and cards opened.

A spokesman for the council said the kiosks were ideal for stand-alone businesses and the whole re-design ensured the market was more energy efficient and had a welcome, brighter atmosphere.

He added: “The market boasts 26 stalls and sells a diverse range of goods, including traditional local produce such as meats, fruit and vegetables and clothes. There is even a café which is now under new management.”

The market is open on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 8.30am until 4.30pm.
