FUN, friendship and Christian togetherness were the admirable ingredients of a three-day summer fair held at Bulwell’s United Reformed Church.

Inspired by the Olympic and Paralympic Games, organisers Christine Cook, the church’s children’s, youth and family worker, and church elder Judith Watchorn, chose ‘sports academy’ as the theme for the busy event at the venue on Brooklyn Road.

Backed by church members and friends, the playscheme brought great fun and enjoyment for more than 20 youngsters on each day.

Keep-fit sessions, arts and crafts, sporting activities, a puppet show, cooking classes, singing and dancing, games, competitions and drama workshops, not to mention Bible-linked activities, ensured there was never a dull moment.

“Everyone who took part had a wonderful time,” said Christine. “It was pleasing to see the children make new friends and enjoy a varied programme that was carefully planned.”
