‘BOOK up’ your ideas and fall in love with reading! That was the message when author Cathy Cassidy paid a visit to Bulwell.
Cathy was voted ‘Queen Of Teen’ last year by young readers who have been smitten by her books, particularly the ‘Daizy Star’ and ‘Chocolate Box Girls’ series.
But thanks to Nottingham City Council’s library services and the publisher Penguin, her young fans were able to meet her in the flesh at Springfield Primary School as part of the Year Of Reading 2011 initiative.
As well as Springfield youngsters, pupils from Snape Wood and Cantrell Primary Schools, of Bulwell, Bulwell Academy, Stanstead Primary School, Bestwood Park and Old Basford Primary School were invited
The children took part in competitions to win books and chocolates, while many dressed up for a fashion show wearing hats they designed themselves. Cathy also signed books.
Coun David Trimble (Lab), lead member for leisure and culture at the city council, said: “Meet-the-author events like this give readers a chance to meet the face behind the book and have the opportunity to ask questions to learn more about writing and the ideas behind characters and storylines.”
Cathy was previously editor of ‘Jackie’ magazine and an agony aunt on ‘Shout’ magazine.
