Remembrance service: please accept our apologies

On behalf of the Royal British Legion Hucknall Branch we wish to apologise to the members of Hucknall community for the breakdown of the PA system during the Remembrance Service held in Titchfield Park.

We, the organising committee for the event would like to point out the following: due to the problems we have had in previous years with our own system we this year decided at considerable cost to the club to hire a professional outdoor events PA company at our expense (not from the poppy appeal money) for this year’s ceremony.

Unfortunately the system they used, which was working perfectly prior to the service had an amplifier blowout just prior to the actual service. Although we accept that we are ultimately responsible for the Remembrance Service, the actual system failure cannot be attributed to the Royal British Legion Hucknall Branch.

Although we appreciate the frustration and disappointment of the Hucknall community who attended the service, the verbal abuse given by the small minority of people to the organising members and veterans is totally unacceptable.

These members are purely volunteers and give up their own time to plan and organize the event (as well as collecting for the actual poppy appeal and other RBL commitments such as welfare work in the community).

We would like to invite any person who would like to complain about, or discuss the event, to attend the Annual General Meeting to be held in the British Legion in Beardall Street on Sunday the 24th November, 2013 commencing at 11am
