THE cenotaph area of Hucknall Titchfield Park fell silent on Remembrance Sunday — and not just for the Two Minutes to honour brave war heroes.

A fault with the sound system meant that many among the hundreds of people present could not follow the proceedings.

There were embarrassing moments when voices were intermittently amplified but then could not be heard.

The chairman of Hucknall Royal British Legion branch, Kevin Tomlinson, said: “There was some sort of interference and we are not quite sure what it was.

“We had taken the precaution of having the system tested beforehand and it then worked perfectly.”

Similar problems have been experienced on previous Remembrance Days at the cenotaph. The Legion branch may liaise with Ashfield District Council in a bid to avoid a recurrence of the fiasco in future years.
