CHILDREN in the Dispatch district were caught up in a wave of celebrations to mark the royal wedding.
The day before the ceremony at Westminster Abbey, Ellenique Mart and Daniel Rowlett took the place of Kate Middleton and Prince William for a mock royal wedding at a party staged by Hucknall Pre-School Playgroup.
The event at National Primary School in the town featured a staged ceremony before children tucked into a wedding buffet.
Youngsters also joined in the fun at two of the SureStart centres in Hucknall.
For activities at High Leys Children’s Centre on High Leys Road and Butlers Hill and Broomhill Children’s Centre on Broomhill Road included the chance to decorate a giant, pretend wedding-cake and enjoy jewellery making, dressing up and a ‘street party’ snack time.
Children at Newstead Primary School celebrated the royal wedding in advance with a bash before the Easter holidays.
They dressed in their best clothes and enjoyed a wedding feast of traditional English treats, including cream teas and cucumber sandwiches.
They decorated cakes and made bunting, crowns and Union Jack flags before finishing things off with a disco.
