SEARCHING for rats in a pool of slime was one of the fittingly ghastly games enjoyed by youngsters during a Hallowe’en bash at Leen Mills Pre-School Playgroup in Hucknall.

Forty-five children got into the spooky spirit of things for a day of fun at the playgroup’s base on Carlingford Road.

But there was no cause for concern. For the rats were rubber and the slime was actually jelly!

Fancy dress was also a highlight of the day as staff and children transformed themselves into Hallowe’en characters, including vampires, skeletons and witches.

The menu at snack time included cakes and biscuits decorated with spiders’ webs, witches and pumpkins.

Children then got to grips with a craft session where they made witches’ hats and spiders’ webs.

A member of staff said: “It was great fun for everyone involved. The children really threw themselves into the games and had a great time.”

The Hallowe’en party is the latest in a long line of events staged by the playgroup in what has been an impressive year.

Not only has it celebrated its silver jubilee, it has also been awarded a top ‘oustanding’ rating by the Office for Standards in Education (OFSTED).
