SELL-out audiences enjoyed being given the Blues after two shows performed by talented teenagers at Hucknall’s Holgate Comprehensive School.
Indeed they were dancing in the aisles and singing along as the musical montage, ‘A Night With Jake and Elwood’, took centre stage at the school’s Hillcrest Drive campus.
The show was named after the sibling stars of the stage and movie hit, ‘The Blues Brothers’.
Seventy students took part in the shows, with SIX Jakes and Elwoods regularly appearing on stage throughout.
The performances were packed with music from songs made famous by West End musicals, ‘Chicago’ and ‘Cabaret’. Hits included ‘Rescue Me’, ‘Shake Your Tail Feather’ and ‘Gimme Some Loving’.
The first instalment of the show attracted a crowd of 180. The second was so popular that extra four rows of seats had to be added to cope with the 200-plus audience.
Ticket sales raised £800, which will help fund new stage lighting at the school. Holgate is a specialist in drama and the arts.
Head of music Aoife McMullan said: “The pupils were brilliant and put on a professional show.”
