A Shirebrook woman who was caught speeding told magistrates she had been distracted because she had not driven on that road for 30 years.

Karen Knight, 48, of Main Street, admitted speeding after she was clocked driving at 40mph in a 30mph zone on the A690 Woodhouse Road on August 9 last year.

In a letter to the court she said: “My only reasonable excuse was I was driving a hire car on a road I hadn’t been on since the 1980’s and was not aware of the speed limit.”

Magistrates fined her £42 and ordered her to pay a victim surcharge of £20 and £85 costs. Three points were put on her license.
