Slimmers get together to beat obesity and boost charity

SLIMMING groups in Hucknall and Bulwell are putting their weight behind a campaign to help residents shed the pounds and become fitter, healthier and happier.

Members of Slimming World classes in the towns are taking part in the annual ‘Let’s Beat Obesity Together’ initiative. Last year, members in the UK lost more than 3.8 million pounds in weight.

To mark the launch, consultants from Hucknall and Bulwell took part in a fundraising bag-pack at the superstores of Morrison’s in Bulwell, Sainsbury’s in Arnold and Tesco in Bulwell.

Money collected will go to the group, Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, in a bid to help cancer sufferers. Support has also come from Hucknall Leisure Centre.

In turn, those who take part in ‘Let’s Beat Obesity Together’ will earn sponsorship for their weight loss.

Stella Louttit, team developer with Slimming World, said: “Anyone who would like to lose weight is welcome to go along to any of our groups and join the challenge where we are losing pounds and gaining pounds (for charity) all at the same time.

“Become a happier and more confident you.

“To top it off, you’ll be sharing in our groups’ pride that every pound you’ve dropped has gone towards helping Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.”

The 13-week ‘Let’s Beat Obesity Together’ initiative is not just about the Slimming World organisation.

It also brings together doctors, hospitals, schools, workplaces and community groups to tackle obesity as a community.
