A Bulwell primary school is celebrating after reaching the top of the class in its Key Stage 2 results.

Snape Wood Primary School has also been graded as ‘Good’ by inspectors from the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills (OfSTED) in June this year, after receiving an ‘Inadequate’ rating in 2013.

Head teacher Scott Mason, who has been in post for just over two years, said the school has under gone ‘a huge transition over the last few years’

He said: “Our latest Key Stage 2 results have just been published and they are fantastic! Not only are they the best the school has ever achieved but the progress of our children is better than 99 per cents of all other schools.

“In Reading, Writing and Mathematics the progress of children in Key Stage 2 was in the top one per cent of schools nationally. This is a fantastic achievement and a just reward for all of the hard work the children, staff, parents and Governors have put in. We are absolutely delighted. However we are determined that this will not be a one off. I am confident we can produce these types of results every year.”

Assistant head Laura Walker said progress was due to a new method of teaching which sees the children take responsibilty for their own learning and linking lessons to the real world. Using a ‘starter, mean course, desert and after-dinner mints’ menu of ascending complexity, the children can challenging themselves and others. Laura said: “We are always trying to get them to evaluate their teachers’ work. They love to spot what the teacher has done wrong!”
