A SECURITY officer from Hucknall, who once worked with Special Branch officers ahead of a visit by former Prime Minister Gordon Brown, has retired after 21 years manning the same site.

Ray White (67) became a familiar face at the BioCity site on Pennyfoot Street, Nottingham, which is home to laboratories run by healthcare and pharmaceutical companies.

Ray (pictured) was originally employed by Boots at the site and then Knoll Pharmaceuticals before it became BioCity in 2003. He was actually due to retire in 2009 but enjoyed his job so much he decided to carry on.

He said: “I couldn’t have wished for a more varied job and a friendlier team to work with.”

BioCity’s chief executive Glenn Crocker hosted a celebratory lunch to mark Ray’s retirement.

Ray is now looking forward to spending time with his family and fulfilling a life-long ambition to visit Pompeii in Italy.
