Students and staff at Ormiston Ilkeston Enterprise Academy have made their mark on a new £6.5million building scheduled to be completed by June 2015.

They signed beams inside the new two-storey structure which will replace the Cantelupe building, also known as the Pyramid, which has now been demolished after contractor Balfour Beatty started work in December last year.

State-of-the-art facilities will be on offer in the new build including 19 classrooms and studios for Maths, English and Science.

Lyn Ashby, Business Manager at the academy, and staff from Balfour Beatty have been working closely with Erewash Borough Council’s Conservation Officer, James White, on the repairs.

Dave Smith, Principal at Ormiston Ilkeston Enterprise Academy, said that all students would benefit from the major revamp.

He said: “We’re now starting to see the results of this work, which will ultimately be a state-of-the-art facility in which our students will be given the very best education.”

Summer 2015 will see the demolition of the Mundy Building and the removal of all temporary classrooms on the site.
