Hucknall’s Tesco Extra superstore has appointed a community champion who wants to reach out to local groups.

Jan Lees said: “I would like to find out what Hucknall has to offer by way of local initiatives so that we can help to highlight them. I feel very enthusiastic about my role.”

Jan wants to promote Tesco’s ‘Farm to Fork’ scheme, which gives schoolchildren guided tours of the superstore to see food prepared. She is now forming links with Hucknall’s Hope Lea Project, which looks after adults with learning disabilities and their carers.

Members of Hucknall First Community Forum visited the superstore. A spokesman said: “We hope the contact we have made with Tesco will lead to funding opportunities to benefit local people.”

The forum will be holding its next meeting at the superstore on Wednesday 16th September, starting at 7pm.
