Tea up for the golden oldies

SERVICE with a smile was the order of the day as pensioners turned out in force for Hucknall’s ever-popular over-73s tea.

The annual event at the Central Methodist Church on Baker Street was again organised by the Rotary and Inner Wheel Clubs of Hucknall.

Anyone aged 73 or over was invited on a first-come, first-served basis. More than 70 pensioners took up the invitation, with the oldest in their 90s.

A meal and dessert were prepared by the Inner Wheel ladies, while Rotarians acted as servers and poured out lashings of tea.

Members of the Rotary Club also provided musical entertainment, with Rotarian Ian Young leading a sing-along.

The event, which has been running since the end of the Second World War, offers a chance for locals to rekindle old friendships.
