Thank you Hucknall!

That’s the message from the Hucknall Royal British Legion (RBL) branch after big-hearted local people gave generously to this year’s Poppy Appeal, raising a staggering £28,366.

Organiser Barrie Straw said: “The branch and I cannot thank the people of Hucknall, and the surrounding area, enough for their generosity in this year’s Poppy Appeal, as well as the shops, pubs, clubs and schools for all their help.

“We all know that this was a special year as it was 100 years since the start of the First World War - and it has shown by the amount that has been donated most generously.

“This year’s appeal raised £28.366 - this was up on last year’s Poppy Appeal by £6.100. I cannot thank you all enough for your generosity.”

Barrie gave special thanks to the Air Training Cadets, the Army Cadets, RBL Explorer Scouts, Rotary, and all those who helped collect.

Special donations were also gratefully received from the people who knitted poppy cakes, those who organised the tea dance at the community centre on Ogle Street, the Round Table and the Co-op funeral directors who let the RBL dress their window.
