AS formal parties to mark the end of the academic year, proms are generally associated with secondary schools.
But the Hucknall-based TINY TOTS PLAYGROUP has shown that very young children may not need to miss out on the fun of such an event.
The group, which meets at the John Godber Centre on Ogle Street, held its own prom for youngsters who were about to leave for infant and primary schools.
Nineteen children took part in the event and they enjoyed putting on their glad rags for the occasion.
Tina Marshall, who runs the Tiny Tots jointly with Anne Taylor, said: “It was very nice for the youngsters who took part. I think the prom was well worthwhile because it has given the children something special to remember us by.”
The long-established Tiny Tots was first formed 35 years ago and it has always been based at the same venue — formerly the Church Hall.
Tina, who has been associated with the playgroup for 27 years, recalled that there was once a snooker room ‘just down the passage’ from where the Tiny Tots meet.
“It has been very rewarding for me to be involved with the playgroup for so many years,” said Tina. “I can look back on catering for children of different generations. Working with youngsters has never lost its appeal for me.”
Sessions of the playgroup take place each Monday to Friday from 9 am to 12 midday and are for children aged from two to five.
