HUCKNALL and Linby Mining Community Brass Band landed a creditable third-place finish in an open competition last weekend.
The event, which was staged by the Leicester Brass Band Association, featured 57 competing bands.
In an eight-strong section, Hucknall and Linby came third after choosing to play the difficult test piece, ‘Purcell Variations’. They were presented with a certificate and a cheque for £100.
On Friday December 9, the band will join forces with Eastwood Male Voice Choir for a concert to benefit the fund set up after the mining disaster in South Wales which killed four men earlier this year. The show, organised by the Coal Merchants Association, is being held at Ilkeston Football Club.
The band’s annual Christmas concert is at Hucknall Parish Church on Saturday December 17.
