Work began on the Hucknall Improvement Scheme this week with a series of overnight road closures.

On Monday, councillor Steve Calvert, vice-chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council’s transport and highways committee, Jonathan Falls, project manager for Carillion Tarmac, Mark Goslin, Tarmac general manager and Coun Kevin Greaves, chairman of the transport and highways committee met at Hucknall market place to mark the date with a ceremonial spade.

Contractors Tarmac have announced more overnight road closures for next week: from 8pm to 6am, Monday to Wednesday, Station Road will be closed at the junction of Linby Road and Wigwam Lane and Linby Road closed at the junction of Station Road and Linby Avenue.

No works will be carried out on Thursday January 21 and Friday January 22, and contractors say access will be maintained at all times via diversions and vehicle marshalls.

The whole scheme, which will see sections of the High Street pedestrianised and the introduction of new roads and junctions to reduce congestion in the town, is expected to be completed by January of next year.
