Drivers are being advised to avoid the motorway this morning (October 12) after a crash is expected to cause extra delays.
Emergency services are dealing with a serious collision near junction 24a Long Eaton of the M1, which took place in the early hours.
Two vehicles were involved and two people have been taken to hospital as a result of the accident.
The southbound carriageway is expected to be closed for some time - including rush hour - whilst police officers work at the scene.
This will also add to the congestion caused by the roadworks between junctions 28 and 30 - where there is a 50mph speed restriction in place.
A spokesman for Nottinghamshire Police said: “Drivers are asked to avoid the area if possible. Thank you for your patience.”
