U3A group celebrates successful year

HUCKNALL’S John Godber Centre played host to the HUCKNALL AND DISTRICT UNIVERSITY OF THE THIRD AGE (U3A) group’s Christmas celebrations to mark the end of an interesting year.

Almost 200 members attended the event, enjoying lunch followed by entertainment which took the form of country and western singing, a comedy sketch featuring past and present club chairpmen and various performances from U3A groups.

“This year has been a successful year and has seen the group almost double in size, which has meant moving to a larger meeting place,” explained Sue Stanley, speaker secretary.

“Many new interest groups have been started and a variety of social activities organised and our monthly speakers have provided entertainment, facts and information on many subjects.

“Hucknall U3A’s website continues to improve and offers all the information needed for members to access what is planned as well as a monthly newsletter.”

The Dispatch’s very own Denis Robinson will be the group’s next speaker on January 9 at the Central Methodist Church. His talk is entitled ‘57 years on The Dispatch’.
