HUCKNALL’S John Godber Centre was first past the winning post with a fundraising race night.

The venue was filled with punters betting on their favourite horses to win.

But the real winner was the centre itself, which benefited from the evening’s entertainment.

“It was a really entertaining night,” said centre manager Kim Pears. “There was a brilliant atmosphere as people cheered on their horses to win.

“Two teams came along from the Horse and Groom at Linby who were very competitive.

“Thanks to Hucknall Sports Soccer School for running the races.”

All funds raised on the night went towards the centre’s development fund for the ongoing refurbishment of the hall.

Kim added: “We managed to raise £350, which wasn’t as much as last year’s race night as it wasn’t as well attended — maybe due to half term.

“But we are happy with the total and it all helps. We are getting to know which events work for us and this will definitely become an annual event.”
